How does VoLTE work?
In VoLTE the calls are made over the IP network provided by the 4G network. It uses your 4G data connectivity to send data packets for voice calls, for example, when you use WhatsApp calls, Skype calls, etc. using the Internet.
And VoLTE allows voice traffic to be carried over IP networks (IP to IP based networks) using IP packets. It carries your calls over the data connection as a stream of IP packets. It mainly works on IP-based networks and supports only packet switching.

However, the lack of general deployment between networks can detract from the overall quality of voice/messaging service (eg end-to-end HD Voice).
- Enable Interconnect and Roaming. Seamless roaming can be optimized in all IP worlds. That is if all parties adhere to a single, common implementation of the interface between each device and the network.
These three principles will underpin how Voice, SMS, and RCS will work in the future. They will define interfaces for end-to-end calling structures, which facilitate interconnections and roaming.
