History of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO)
In 1950, the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) was established to conduct large-scale sample surveys across India.
The staff of NSSO is drawn from the Indian Statistical Service (both appointed by UPSC) and Subordinate Statistical Service (appointed through Staff Selection Commission).
Survey Design and Research Division, Field Operations Division, Data Processing Division, and Coordination and Publications Division are the four divisions of NSSO.
The Director-General of the Central Statistical Organization (CSO) was assisted by two Additional Director Generals, four Deputy Director Generals, Joint Directors, and other official officers. Delhi was the headquarters of the CSO.
The Central Statistical Organization was in charge of coordinating the statistical activities of the country. The functions of the CSO included the following-
