KTM Full Form Kraftfahrjuge Trunkenpolge Mattighofen. KTM is an Austrian motorcycle company founded in 1934 by Hans Trunkenpolz in Mattighofen, Austria. And In the beginning, it was a metalworking shop. The English translation of Kraftfahrgeuse is Motor Vehicle. Later, a businessman named Ernst Kronrif invested in the company, so the name of the company was changed to Kronrif Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. KTM Full Form: History
In 1934, an Austrian engineer Johann (Hans) Trunkenpolz founded a fitter and car repair shop in Mattighofen. In 1937, he began selling DKW motorcycles and Opel cars the following year. His shop was known as Kraftfahrzeug Trunkenpolz Mattighofen, but the name was unregistered. During World War II, his wife took over a business that was flourishing mainly due to diesel engine repair.
After the war, demand for repair works fell sharply and Trunkenpolz began to think about building his own motorcycle. His first motorcycle, the R100, was prototyped in 1951. The components of the motorcycle were produced in-house, except for the Rotax engine which was made by Fichtel & Sachs. Serial production of the R100 began in 1953. With just 20 employees, the motorcycles were made at the rate of three per day.
In 1991, KTM fragmented into following entities:

KTM 1953-1991
In 1953, businessman Ernst Kronrif became a major shareholder of the company, which was renamed Kronerif and registered as Trunkenpolz Mattighofen. In 1954, the R125 Camper was introduced, followed by the Grand Camper and the scooter Mirabell [19] in 1955.
The company achieved its first racing title at the 1954 Austrian 125cc National Championship. In 1956, KTM made its appearance at the International Six Day Trials, where Egon Dornauer won the gold medal on the KTM machine.
In 1957, KTM produced its first sports motorcycle, the Trophy 125cc. KTM’s first moped, named the Makey, was launched in 1957, followed by the Pony I in 1960, the Pony II in 1962, and the Comet in 1963. And The 1960s also saw the beginning of bicycle production in Mattighofen.
Ernst Kronrif died in 1960. And two years later in 1962, Hans Trunkenpolz also died of a heart attack. His son Erich Trunkenpolz took over the management of the company.
As the company expanded, the workforce increased to 400 in 1971, and forty years after inception, KTM was offering 42 different models. And Additionally, KTM was able to produce motorcycles for the racing industry. During the 1970s and 80s, KTM also began developing and producing engines and radiators. Radiators sold to European car manufacturers were a large part of the company’s business in the 1980s.

In 1992, the company was split into four new entities: KTM Sportmotorcycle GmbH (Motorcycle Division), KTM Fahrrad GmbH (Bicycle Division), KTM Kühler GmbH (Radiator Division) and KTM Werkzeugbau GmbH (Tooling Division).
Now owned by KTM Motorradholding GmbH, which was formed by Cross Holding (a daughter of Cross Industries) and other investors, KTM Sportmotorcycle GmbH began operations in 1992 and later took over the sibling tooling division KTM Werkzeugbau. In the following years, while steadily increasing production and business, investing in new production and R&D facilities, introducing and successfully sponsoring new models, and participating in various sports racing events, the company has achieved many milestones as directed by the Managing Director of KTM.
