Brief History of ITIL:

ITIL was developed by the British Government’s Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) in the 1980s when data centers became decentralized and adopted a geographically diverse architecture.
Initially, ITIL consisted of more than 30 books, which were condensed into seven books in 2000, and changes continued. Eventually, ITIL 4 was introduced in 2019, with a focus on automating processes, improving service management, and integrating the IT department into the business as most business functions depend on technology to get the job done. Apart from this, it also updated the framework as per modern technology, software, and types of equipment.

Its implementation guides can simplify process development, but do not necessarily account for more innovative processes or technologies. Implementation of ITIL requires time; training; and expertise of employees; so organizations should ensure they have the appropriate resources – and certified staff – before going with ITIL implementation.
