CII Full Form Is the Confederation of Indian Industry. It is a not-for-profit and non-governmental organization established to create a conducive environment for the development of industry and civil society in India through advisory and consultancy services. It was founded in 1895 and has over 8,000 members from both the private and public sectors. As of July 2017, Ms. Shobhana Kamineni is the President, and Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee is the Director-General of CII.

Brief history:
CII began in 1895, when five planning firms—Martin & Company, Burn & Company, John King & Company, Jessop & Company, and Turner Morrison & Company—decided to form the Engineering and Iron Trades Association (EITA). To promote the interests of Indian manufacturers, EITA was renamed as Indian Engineering Association (IEA) in 1912. In 1942, the Engineering Association of India (EAI) was established to promote the interests of small and medium-sized planning firms. In 1974, the EAI jointly with the IEA formed the Association of Engineering Industry of India (AIEI), which was transformed into the Confederation of Engineering Industry (CEI) in 1986. And In 1991 CEI was changed to the present Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
Rajiv Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, was instrumental in integrating the Federation of Indian Engineering Industries (AIEI) into the Confederation of Indian Industry during the 1980s. This public affiliation will address the interests of Indian industry. He considered the AIEI to be more master and current and directed it on critical process matters.
In 1998, the then Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, participated in the National Convention and Annual Session of CII, encouraging public experts, industry, and elites to change. This was his first area to be involved in any industry relationship as Prime Minister. Shri Vajpayee reaffirms the commitment of public power to drive change and highlights the meaning of a sensible financial turn of events.

- CII has more than 500 “scholarly groups” (boards, panels, teams, and working gatherings among others) working at the public and provincial levels in industry sectors. These meetings take shape and articulate some of the concerns of government policy makers, regulators, think tanks, etc. They work effectively with public authorities to develop strategies that enable organizations.
- CII has been an impetus for change in India’s financial strategy. In 1991, CII played an important role in monetary progress, bridging the high insurance divide between Indian industry and the rest of the world.
