ABS Full Form Is Anti-Lock Braking System. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) is a safety anti-skid braking system used on aircraft and land vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, trucks, and buses. It is a security system provided in automobiles. This prevents the wheels from slipping when locking and braking during an emergency stop. So This system allows the wheels to maintain contact with the road. When you encounter a sudden stop and apply the brakes the wheels don’t lock and the car moves in the direction of the wheels turned by the driver so that it doesn’t crash into the obstacle.

In 1920, French automobile and aircraft pioneer Gabriel Voisin used hydraulic braking pressure on his aircraft brakes with systems that reduce the risk of tire slippage. First patented in 1928 by German engineer Karl Wessel, but Wessel never produced a working product. After 8 years of this, Robert Bosch also took a license but he also did not produce any such product.

In the early 1950s, the Dunlop Miniature Anti-Skid System was covered in aircraft throughout the United Kingdom. Margaret used to reduce braking distance by 30 percent on icy and wet surfaces. Due to this the life of the tire was increased.

Even after applying the brakes completely, the direction of the vehicle can be changed. Vehicles without ABS tend to jam when brakes are applied, whose direction cannot be changed. And after applying the brakes, the stopping distance of the car is reduced and the balance of the vehicle is not disturbed.

Disadvantages of ABS

They don’t work that well when driving on off-road mud or rough terrain. Some cars and bikes only have the facility to turn off the ABS.
